As I find issues, I stop selling the Prolific version of that cable.Here are my findings1) USB serial cable costing less than $10 tend to have driver compatibility problems due to the use of counterfeit Prolific chipsets.2) Cables using the FTDI chip AND a well-designed PCBs, have a unique feature that makes them work, especially when TX & RX operate on the same wire.3) 75% of the USB serial cable that I sell are FTDI, the rest 25% are genuine Prolific. I have found issues with 65% of the Prolific cables on the market today. I have sold both cables and have learned a lot about this question. Missing OS compatibility claims altogether or disclaimers about Windows 64-bit not being supported are another big red flag.

Prolific prohibits the distribution of any PL-2303 drivers (including download links) without written permission from Prolific.NOTE:Windows 8/8.1/10 are NOT supported in PL-2303HXA and PL-2303X EOL chip versions. We issue this warning to all our customers and consumers to avoid confusion and false purchase.
Counterfeit IC products show exactly the same outside chip markings but generally are of poor quality and causes Windows driver compatibility issues (Yellow Mark Error Code 10). Here is the warning copied from Prolific’s website in Taiwan.Warning Notice:Please be warned that counterfeit (fake) PL-2303HX (Chip Rev A) USB to Serial Controller ICs using Prolific's trademark logo, name, and device drivers, were being sold in the China market. In addition, the drivers for the counterfeit chips do not support 64-bit Operating Systems and all versions of Windows 10.

Moreover, your computer's OS is going to install the latest version of the drivers, deleting the drivers that came on the CD. In fact, most of the time you don't even get to hear whether your suggestion worked for them or not! We generally like helping people out where we can, whether it be with software or advice, but I certainly don't blame throwed for speaking up, it's just common courtesy to thank someone who helped you for free. Please don't take it personally, yes we realise everybody has to start somewhere but time and time again we get brand new members using their very first post to ask for help, someone here will invest many hours assisting them and then that person just vanishes like a fart in a fan factory. Just because T had a meltdown pityparty and started to rant about how mistreated he was because he wasn't being thanked enough is no reason for forum members to get snipey and be less than helpful when a new member asks a question whatever it might be nor is it reason to lock the forum or go private as he suggested T or any other member has the option to respond to the question asked or not his choice anyone in AA that has been around long enough to remember M's policies and legal activities in the past will desire to keep a low profile.
